Mini: It Happens

 Sometimes shit happens.

Sometimes it’s small, sometimes it’s overwhelming. Sometimes there’s a seemingly never ending flow of shittiness, so great that it feels like you’ll never get out of it.

Unfortunately, things happen that are out of our control. I don’t like it either, never have. One thing that I aim to be aware of is the things in my life that I can control, even if it feels like there’s few of them. This is something that I have come to practice in everyday life, and I think you might like the idea of it too!

Don’t let my cheeriness fool you – I had a horrible week. For me, though, it’s better for me to feel my feelings, cry about it, and then move on. What happened has passed, so this is the new normal in which we live. I know that the illusion of control is a huge thing for some people. There are plenty of different ways to change your mindset from pessimistic to optimistic as seen in my other article here. What this mini is for, however, is to make me feel less alone. Throughout the past year, I have had friends, family, coworkers, and even strangers show me massive support. Oftentimes mental illness plays tricks on your mind – making you feel as if nobody understands what you’re going through.

I’m here to tell you to REACH OUT FOR SUPPORT.

It is not a sign of weakness, rather the complete opposite. Showing that you need a little help is, in my opinion, far more courageous and beneficial than carrying everything on your back like a pack mule. Put the ego down, and realize that sometimes shit happens. It happens to all of us, and if someone in your life puts you down for needing support, maybe they weren’t meant to be there in the first place.

Always keep in mind the good times, even when it isn’t easy. Every winter, you feel like you’ll never be warm again. I’m here to reassure you, your summer is coming.
