Self Love

April 18, 2021

Hi friends, today I am going to lecture you about self love. Get comfy. Self love is not something that you can skip out on. This can’t be done halfheartedly or only occasionally. This is a commitment that you deserve. We all deserve self love and compassion and here I’ll tell you what that looks like. Self love is, according to BBR Foundation: “state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others. Self-love means not settling for less than you deserve. Self-love can mean something different for each person because we all have many different ways to take care of ourselves. Figuring out what self-love looks like for you as an individual is an important part of your mental health.” I don’t mean to come off as aggressive to scare you away but I have a nagging feeling that someone needs to hear this. Several people is more likely but I’m going to do my best.

I want to start off by saying that self love looks different for everyone. We are all unique individuals with unique needs. Self love is important whether or not you have a significant other, a happy family, or are by yourself most of the time. Appreciation, admiration, and love for oneself is one of the most powerful ways you can connect with your inner feelings. Sometimes these thoughts and feelings get ignored or brushed off. I’m here to tell you that if your gut is telling you something, there is always a reason. Self trust is the first step to take to total self acceptance. If you can’t trust your thoughts and emotions, who can you trust? You are first and foremost responsible for taking care of yourself. I don’t always like it either, especially on the harder days, but that’s where trust comes in. If your mind and body are telling you you need something, chances are they’re right. A good place to start is meditation. We touched on the basics last week so be sure to read that one first! Once you can fully trust in your instincts it’s time to put a plan into action. An important thing to remember is all aspects of spirituality intertwine. Nobody is an expert at first and that is difficult for a lot of people to accept. I assure you, with practice, self love will start showing up in your every day routines and your attitude!

Self trust has been established, I believe in myself and my instincts to tell me my needs. Now what? Our next step should be putting those thoughts into practice. Self care is sometimes a bath or meditation, other times its doing the things that you’d rather not do like having a difficult conversation or cleaning your house. The best thing to remember every day is “I deserve to be loved.” No matter who in your life has told you or made you feel otherwise, you are important. You are here for a reason and it’s time that you take care of you. Your body carries you throughout your entire time here. Be kind to it. Do not restrict, ridicule, or judge it. Next week we will be diving in deeper but these first steps are so important I leave you with this today.

Have a great week friends, thank you for reading. Be sure to check out all of my other articles and take care of yourself!
